Officer, Research Review and Support (GIS), Pew Charitable Trusts (Washington, DC)
 
The Officer will serve as the primary in-house specialist on Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geospatial data, and analysis for The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Program staff. Specifically, the Officer will advise and collaborate with project teams across Pew – in particular those projects with a mapping or GIS component – while also managing external GIS contracts. These efforts will include creating (or contracting for) detailed and complex geospatial analyses, developing analytical methodologies and models in addition to producing cartographic products to support project planning, advocacy, education and outreach (including media). The analyses, maps and other information generated by the Officer will inform management decisions for project teams, their partners, and external contractors. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience including project management and geospatial analysis. Graduate degree in GIS (or related) preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of ESRI software (ArcGIS 10x, Model Builder, Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, ArcGIS Online); other GIS software experience (e.g., QGIS) also beneficial.
  • Experience with creating and managing GIS and relational databases and customizing GIS analyses using VBA, Python, or other scripting languages. Experience programming in R, C++, or other languages is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively utilize GIS resources from a variety of issue areas.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to track complex activities and timelines and work effectively on teams and independently under minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; proven ability to work productively with a wide array of stakeholders (both internal and external) and perspectives and approach issues with a nonpartisan, objective mindset.
  • Excellent presentation skills, both written and oral; ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong research, analytical, and quantitative skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, including file documentation and system maintenance.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, juggle multiple priorities, adjust to changing circumstances, organize time efficiently, and remain attentive to details.Ability to fit into a fast-paced and highly professional corporate culture which emphasizes excellence, collegiality, and teamwork.
