** RECRUITING TO FILL ONE POSITION CONSISTING OF EITHER A PLANNER TRAINEE, ASSISTANT PLANNER OR ASSOCIATE PLANNER **

This position is designed to prepare the Planner Trainee for a career in local government land use planning. This opportunity would also be valuable to individuals seeking general local government administration experience. Work involves managing land use planning projects from inception to completion. Project management includes application of the Comprehensive Plan, zoning and subdivision ordinances. The Planner Trainee prepares staff reports and assists citizens with their land use planning projects. Work involves conducting research, analysis and presentation of data of limited complexity. Work assignments may be in rural, regional, transportation or natural resource planning.

Principal Duties
An employee in this classification may perform any of the following duties. However, these examples do not include all the specific tasks which an employee may be expected to perform.

1. Performs work on planning projects, such as graphic presentation and report layout.
2. Gathers, selects and compiles data that describe the current status of land use, transportation and human resource systems for use in planning.
3. Performs research in land deeds and titles, and technical documents to prepare written reports on zoning applications.
4. Responds to public inquiries and public agency requests; attends planning meetings.
5. Performs related duties as required.

Education, Experience and Training
An Associate's degree or educational equivalent and major course work in the Geosciences, Geography, Environmental Science, Regional Planning or a closely related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Bachelor's degree preferred.
