This position is located in the heart of the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. Small town living with a large variety of outdoor recreational activities. The climate varies from rainforest on the west to semi arid on the north. The duty station is located in Forks.

This position is in the Olympic Region State Lands section and responsible for providing region wide information technology specialist services and support within the Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This position reports to the State Lands Assistant Region Manager and must interact with all State Lands staff. This includes district foresters, silviculture, recreation, engineering, and easement staff, providing professional consultation and services regarding GIS and cartographic products, guidance and training to both field and region office staff in the Olympic Region including:

• Providing GIS support, analysis and product needs to the State Lands management group;
• Functioning as the region expert on data services and availability;
• Providing technology and GIS services in the management of the agency road network and the region Road Maintenance and Abandonment Planning (RMAP) system;
• Participating as an integral member of the RMAP team and playing a key role in the responsibilities of the DNR to the Forest and Fish Agreement and compliance with Road Maintenance and Abandonment requirements;
• Advising employees with scoping GIS information needs and understanding information sources; and
• Providing training, assistance and serves as the senior expert in GIS

​Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree involving major study in geography, cartography, forestry or closely related field.
• One to three years of experience analyzing, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications and hardware, or providing customer or technical support in information technology (The number of years depends on the amount of formal computer science or information technology education the person has had).
• One year professional experience producing map products and associated analysis data for management decision-making, and three years of experience using ArcGIS or GIS Arc/INFO.
• One year of experience in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills demonstrating the ability to communicate with customers, interpret information and successfully meet customer needs.
• Demonstrated ability to present and provide training to diverse groups

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Five years of experience in an area of natural resource science or cartography.
• Two years of experience working with DNR's computer system and specialized GIS application software and data, such as P&T or transport.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Access
• Knowledge of DNR State trust lands management activities and associated GIS datasets and software
