Job Summary
​The City of Salem has an opening for a limited-duration Stormwater Inspections Technician (Engineer Technician II) in the Stormwater Quality Group of Public Works. While this position comes with the same benefits as a career position, limited-duration positions cannot exceed eighteen months from date of hire.
 
This position performs moderately complex, technical, sub-professional engineering and drafting work. Work involves responsibility for skilled use of engineering and related skills for assisting Stormwater Quality staff with inspections of private and public stormwater treatment facilities and conducting field data collection to inventory potential stormwater retrofit sites. The position will also be providing technical support for the Operations and Maintenance, Outreach, Natural Areas, Stream Cleaning, and Environmental Monitoring programs.
 
Successful applicants possess strong knowledge of green stormwater infrastructure, water quality facilities, and engineering concepts including reading and interpreting maps, plans, and specifications; the ability to read and interpret construction plans, as-built drawings, and engineering maps and records; the ability to use handheld GPS devices, smart phones, and computerized inventory systems; and knowledge of traffic laws, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.  Successful candidates will also demonstrate their ability to follow verbal and written directions, to keep accurate daily time/material logs, to prepare clear and concise written reports, and their proficiency in the use of ArcMap and other GIS software packages.

What are the minimum qualifications? 

• Must pass the pre-employment background check.
• Must have an Oregon Driver license and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
• Associate's degree with major course work in engineering or mathematics, and experience in performing engineering and drafting tasks, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
•  Two years general inspection, maintenance, repair, or construction experience in green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) and/or mechanical stormwater treatment facilities desirable. 
• Two years working with GPS devices and GIS mapping software preferred.
