CLASSIFICATION TITLE: SURVEY TECHNICIAN 1 CLASSIFICATION NUMBER: 851 CLASSIFFICATION CATEGORY: SEIU REPRESENTED FULL TIME DEPARTMENT: Linn County Surveyor’s Office ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: · Research right-of-way irons for road projects; use metal detector to locate buried irons. Research other court, office and government records for related survey work. · Establish or re-establish designated land claim corners, section corners or property corners. Measure the size of building and property involved. · Run preliminary survey lines for roads; establish distance and horizontal alignment between points. · Run levels for cross sections and profiles, etc. Run centerlines for road alignment. · Operate various pieces of survey-related equipment and instruments. · Develop and maintain effective, harmonious and reasonable work relationships with others. · Maintain regular and predictable work attendance. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Knowledge of mathematics, including algebra and trigonometry. Knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and methods involved in survey work. Knowledge of the equipment and instruments used in survey work, their operation and care. Ability to learn the operations of various pieces of surveying equipment and instruments. Ability to make mathematical computations and to keep accurate records. Ability to work out-of-doors in performing manual tasks and survey work. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with superiors, fellow employees and the general public. One year of surveying experience as a member of a survey crew. Graduation from a senior high school, supplemented by additional college level coursework, preferably having attained an Associate Degree in surveying or related field. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the work described. Possession of a valid Oregon Motor Vehicle Operator's License and an acceptable driving record.
