Urban Design Studio Intern (Community Service Aide II) w/ City of Portland

The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability's Urban Design Studio is seeking a production specialist that will support Urban Design Studio staff in their work, primarily utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite package and Google Sketchup software systems, among others. Graphics produced will be used in a variety of visual materials including posters, maps, illustrations, animations for presentations, and documents. The graphics will express urban design concepts and issues at many different scales – the city and region, neighborhoods and districts, as well as streets, sidewalks, sites and buildings. This position also works closely with the bureau's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) department in the development and production of two and three-dimensional graphics.

About the Position:

• The initial schedule is for 20-35 hours per week
• Starting pay rate is $16 per hour
• This position is part-time (maximum 1400 hours per year).
• Expected employment period from October 2019 through April 2020, with possible extension

To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

1. Ability to demonstrate proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite software package; specifically Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere
2. Ability to demonstrate proficiency with Google Sketchup
3. Knowledge of ArcGIS software
4. Ability to efficiently move files among the software packages such as Adobe Creative Suite software package, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, ArcGIS, and Google Sketchup
5. Ability to work in a team environment, allocate time to tasks effectively, and meet deadlines

Additional desired qualifications (not required):

• Hand drawing, perspective rendering
• Experience with 3D digital rendering software, such as Lumion
• Data collection, analysis and graphic representation
• Professional experience in planning and/or design fields, including architecture, landscape architecture, urban design or planning
• Working knowledge of urban design theory, principles and practices
• Photography of the public realm (buildings and open spaces with people) and photo-editing
