​As an Urban Forestry Assistant, you will…
Measure, map, and identify street trees in Portland neighborhoods. Work will include collecting and managing tree data, representing the program to the public, and leading the work of youth and volunteers.
 
Data from the Tree Inventory Project contributes to improving urban forest management and planning- ensuring that all Portlanders have access to the very important public health and environmental services provided by trees- cleaning the air, providing shade and cooling our city, reducing stress and improving mental health, providing wildlife habitat, and creating safer streets.

​Duties will include the following: 

• Collecting street tree data, including tree identification, measurement, and assessment using mobile GIS
• Leading, training, and coordinating the work of youth and volunteers in tree identification and data collection
• Traveling to neighborhoods across Portland, interacting with a diversity of residents and providing information on Portland’s urban forest

This position will work regularly outdoors in all weather conditions. This work requires the ability to move around on uneven terrain, and lift and carry items up to 30 pounds. Valid driver's license preferred, but not required.
 
Position details: 

• Work schedule is 40 hours/week, M-F 7:00 am – 3:30pm, and may include occasional weekends or evenings 
• Start date is May 11, 2023 and runs for 5-6 months (start dates may be flexible)
• Starting pay rate is $24/hour
