Before I came to the USA three years ago, I was living on other side of this world, and
since I have arrived to the USA,  people have asked me a common and friendly
question, "Where are you from?"

I am from Iraq; this question inspired me to create a story map, which is a tour map of
Iraq. Because each time I answer this question I was surprised people didn’t know much
about my country. So I thought this blog post is a good opportunity to share with the GIS student some information related to location and to the geographic nature of Iraq, by creating a tour map "Cascade."  So in some way, through this tour map you can get an idea of the geography of Iraq and explore some places you might unfamiliar with..

What information does my tour map include?
  • Base map represent geographic features and land marks location associated with Pop-ups.
  • This tour map covers three site which is north, middle and south of Iraq.
  • This tour map Included different cities and region such as Baghdad, Falluja, Diyala, Karbala, Muthanna, AL Basra, Babylon and Kurdistan region which is Erbil, Sulaimaniyah, Salahuddin, Sarsing and Sargonar.
  • Includes features from various regions, classified into two sites: The touristic and historical and both site associated with a short description and supported by photos.
  • This tour map also includes a short narration about the geographic location of each landmark.

Rana,
Your map and your country is beautiful, especially Kurdistan. I remember you showing me pictures of Kurdistan on the first day of this class. It is incredible that for decades now, Iraq has been on the television every night and all we are ever shown are the same bombed out desert scenes. It makes one wonder what the U.S. looks like on the news in other countries. Thank you for the enlightenment. I also think the flowers at the end if your presentations are a really nice touch.
