Position: GIS Analyst
Duration: 6 -12 Months
Location: Denver, CO
Rate: $70/hr

Job Description/Responsibility:
  • Provide GIS expertise and incorporate GIS techniques to enhance workflow processes for client’s GIS, Geomatics & Graphics Services Group
  •  Provide GIS spatial analysis and specialized mapping support and related topics in all areas of the business attend regular meetings to increase awareness of GIS support and better integrate GIS services
  •  Support efforts to develop, acquire, maintain and manage GIS spatial information
  • Support efforts to develop, acquire, maintain and manage spatial information pertaining to oil and gas regulations
  • Enhance and derive GIS spatial data to increase data quality, as requested
  • Support efforts to identify and maintain spatial constraint data for mapping and analysis to assist with pre-development planning
  • Support field staff with map generation, spatial data creation and transferring spatial files to assist with field scouting
  • Seek new opportunities to design and implement GIS spatial analysis and specialized mapping
  • Document GIS spatial analysis and specialized mapping workflow procedures
  • GIS research to remain aware of new techniques, processes and solutions applied to the oil and gas industry
  • compile dynamic mapping material to support organized planning sessions

Skills-Must Haves
  • Trained in Geography/GIS from a recognized University or College program
  • 2-5 years of applied GIS experience, oil and gas experience an asset
  • Understanding of co-ordinate systems, projections, datums and transformation processes
  • Cartographic, location positional and land grid knowledge (DLS, NTS, etc)
  • Understanding of the concepts behind data management in a relational database
  • Experience with mapping software (ESRI suite of products, Global Mapper, FME, etc)
  • Working knowledge with ArcGIS Spatial Analyst & 3D Analyst 
  • Strong understanding of GIS 3D concepts
  • Experience handling and working with Digital Elevation Models (DEMs)
  • Experience in modeling theoretical surfaces/DEMs with GIS software, an asset
  • Working knowledge of Environmental applications, and the Oil and Gas industry an asset
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, customer oriented
  •  Good oral and communication skills, self starter with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work in and adapt to a fast pace working environment
  • Ability to travel to field and corporate offices

New GIS Course NOW available

A new GIS course entitled Sharing Conservation Knowledge is now available on ConservationTraining. This is the last course of a six course series designed to teach you the fundamentals of GIS. This course focuses on how you ask questions of your spatial data and how to present your results.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:
  • Define, create and discuss queries in ArcGIS
  • Define, discuss, and implement spatial analyses in ArcGIS using the geoprocessing environment
  • Define map layouts
  • Describe the components of a map layout
  • Apply the three considerations when creating a map layout
  • Work with map templates

The demonstrations and simulations in this course were created using Esri's ArcGIS 9.3 software; however, on August 20, 2014 a LIVE GIS Seminar Event will be held to show the functionality taught in this course in Esri's ArcGIS 10.1 software. GIS DEVELOPER ANALYST IV (L14-020)
(This is a long term temporary position thru June of 2015)

The GIS Developer Analyst will provide efficient, responsible, reliable, cost-effective solutions by performing research, evaluating alternatives, recommending methods and implementing automated and manual systems and procedures to accomplish corporate and client goals and objectives.

We are seeking:
  • Typically a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent work experience in related discipline
  • 2-3 years’ experience developing end-user applications and interfaces in a .Net development environment.

Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for monitoring, investigating, testing, evaluating, and implementing GIS application development technologies for the Center for Geographic Analysis (CGA). Working closely with the professional CGA staff team and the Harvard GIS user community, the GIS Fellow will be involved in designing, developing, improving and supporting GIS software platforms for research and teaching across Harvard University.

Qualifications
Master’s degree in geographic information science, computer science, engineering, geography or a related field. Strong programming skills in JavaScript. Hands-on experience with web development using an object-oriented language such as Python (preferred), Java or Ruby. Experience with an RDBMS such as Postgres, MySQL, or Oracle. Experience with geospatial extensions to the above RDBMS is a strong plus. Strong understanding of HTML. Familiarity with developing on SE Linux.

Preference given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:  Django; javascript libraries such as jQuery or ExtJS; OpenLayers or Leaflet; source version control systems such as Git or Subversion.

Successful candidates will have superior technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to function as a contributing team member.  Must have strong documentation and communication skills; be able to work in a highly dynamic environment with multiple tasks; and collaborate with peers cross organizational structures.

Organizational Information
The Center for Geographic Analysis at Harvard University provides cross-university support to research and education in the field of spatial analysis and geographic information. The Center is responsible for the development of a university-wide technology infrastructure and services to support scholarly research that would use, improve or study geospatial analysis techniques.

Remote Sensing Office Technicians-Portland
Quantum Spatial (formerly WSI) is in search of multiple persons to fill full-time, seasonal, hourly positions for Remote Sensing Technicians in the Portland office. We are looking to fill these positions immediately.

Required Qualifications:
A successful candidate will have a 4-year degree in natural sciences, geography, engineering, surveying, or a related field. Candidates must possess an interest in remote sensing and geodetics, and understand the nature of quantitative data. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities for this position include processing and analysis of a variety of spatial data products (including LiDAR data, Orthophotos, and Video) and general analysis support.  The position requires the ability to maintain productivity while performing repetitive tasks and working to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment. Applicants with GIS coursework or applicable work experience are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
We are looking for individuals with the ability to be successful working independently, as well as in a team setting. The ideal candidate is self-motivated with excellent decision making and problem solving abilities, computer proficient, and has an interest in GIS and remote sensing. An understanding of geospatial concepts and GPS survey methods is desired, but not mandatory. 
  
Though not required, experience in the following areas is greatly desired: 
  • Python or VB scripting
  • Adobe creative suite
  • CAD based software
  • Geo-spatial data
  • Map production
  • Working in a 3D environment
  • GPS Processing
  • Technical writing
  • Statistics commonly used in data analysis
