Job description
RootMetrics is seeking a talented geospatial data analyst to assist in the acquisition and management of geospatial data and to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and tools for geospatial manipulation and analysis of data.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the acquisition and management of geospatial data
• Work with GIS customers and users to define needs and develop appropriate geographic information products to meet those needs, including performing of geoprocessing tasks and  preparing maps, tables, and charts/graphs as needed.
• Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software for geospatial manipulation and analysis of data.
• Performs other duties as required

 

Desired Skills and Experience 

•  BS/MS degree in Geography, GIS, Geomatics or relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Experience with Microsoft Office and associated software applications
• 3+ years of analytic work experience, (can include college projects/work) including manipulation, analysis and reporting of data
• Thorough understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and proven experience with relevant software packages (including ESRI’s ArcGIS 10.x Desktop or PostGIS)
• Experience with ArcGIS Spatial Analyst and Geostatistical Analyst extensions and knowledge of common scripting languages (Python or Javascript)
• Thorough understanding of mapping and cartographic principles
• Thorough knowledge of geodetic issues and coordinate reference systems and the associated transformations typically carried out on geospatial data
• Good analytical and problem solving abilities are required; statistical analysis skills and working knowledge of statistical methods are desired.
• Strong communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to translate complex methods into layman’s terms and to communicate the results of analyses clearly and effectively
• Flexibility and attitude to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging work environment with multiple priorities
• Interpersonal skills that are consistent with an entrepreneurial, small-company environment where teamwork is of the utmost importance
• Nice to have: knowledge of one major statistical software package (e.g. R); familiarity with databases such as SQL Server and Postgres
