The Polar Geospatial Center (PGC) [pgc.umn.edu] at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities provides geospatial support, mapping, and GIS/remote sensing solutions to researchers and logistics groups in the polar science community. We collaborate with scientists around the world to complete their research goals in a safe, timely, and efficient manner by providing a service which most groups do not have the resources or expertise to complete. Our goal is to introduce new, state-of-the-art techniques from the geospatial field to effectively solve problems in the least mapped places on Earth.

About the Job Summary: This position is responsible for management of PGC’s satellite imagery archive and the software/tools that facilitate organization and access to the data, which are the foundation of PGC’s science support work. The applicant will be responsible for building and maintaining imagery management and processing workflows, coordinating data production, and managing High Performance Computing (HPC) resources and projects. The applicant is expected to develop new tools for image processing and analysis as well as update and maintain legacy projects. Knowledge of GIS and Remote Sensing concepts is required. Essential Job Functions and Approximate Percentage of Time: -35% Build and maintain imagery management and processing workflows -30% Develop new tools for image processing and analysis, as well as update and maintain legacy projects -25% Manage High Performance Computing (HPC) resources and projects to effectively meet the objectives of PIs and projects supported by PGC -10% Other duties as needed to help support overarching PGC research needs Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
