GIS Analyst

About the Position 
The GIS Analyst serves as an important member of Stimson Inland’s resource management team, compiling natural resource, topographic, and cartographic data for creation of reports, thematic map products and presentation materials in support of resource management activities, including inventory, silviculture, real estate and timber harvest operations.  In this role you will be responsible for delivery of high quality GIS related products through performance of the following tasks:

• Construction, maintenance, analysis, and modeling of natural resource spatial and tabular databases in support of timberland management activities.
• Editing and preparing high quality maps, presentation materials and graphic products using GIS software.
• Provide resource management staff with training and technical assistance with GIS software and resource grade GPS devices.

• Contribute to technical reports as required by providing maps and data analysis.
• Responsible for accurate and timely deliverables in in reasonable amount of time.
• Assist the GIS Manager with collection, download and edit of merchantable timber      inventory data & associated GIS projects. Check cruise contractor cruisers and assist with land and timber appraisals.

 

About You
To excel in the position of GIS Analyst, you should possess the following skills and experience:

• Proficient knowledge of GIS concepts and principles.
• Proficiency with GIS software specifically the latest ESRI suite of GIS software, ArcGIS 10+.
• Proficiency with GPS data collections and post-processing.
• Good knowledge of relational database management software.
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
• Understanding of data capture and conversion methods.
• Understanding and practice of geospatial concepts and mapping techniques.
• Understanding and practice of good spatial data management.
• Understanding of computer networks and good file management practices.
• Ability to adapt to frequent changes and interruptions.
• Enthusiastic and team-oriented individual.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
• Operate independently under minimal supervision.
• Work well with others.

• BS or BA in Forestry, Geography or natural resource related field required.
• 3 to 5 years of GIS experience.
• Experience in a natural resource management is a plus.
• Experience with Python or other scripting languages is a plus.
