​General position summary: The GIS Analyst serves as an important member of MB&G's Technical Services Group. The group provides a full range of GIS solutions and support for forestry and other natural resource projects. The GIS Analyst leads project management efforts, coordinates multiple projects, directs staff on those projects, and drafts scopes of work. 

​Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

• Lead GIS projects within MB&G’s Technical Services Group.
• Deliver high quality GIS products to meet clients’ needs. 
• Support Forest Analysts, Planners, and Biologists to create GIS tools and products to solve complex natural resource problems.
• Suggest and develop new ways of approaching GIS tasks.
• Construction, maintainence, analysis, modeling, and visualization of GIS databases.
• Support growth and advancement in GIS technology.
• Prepare technical reports to document methods and results for GIS projects.
• Edit and prepare presentations, maps, and graphic products.
• Participate in business development, including proposal preparation and internal strategic planning.
• Ensure accurate and timely deliverables for all projects.

• Promote MB&G as a premier provider of natural resource and GIS consulting services.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

Job Conditions:

• Remote position considered. Preference will be given to those in, or willing to relocate to, Portland, Oregon. Relocation stipend available. 
• Extensive computer use, physical ability to operate a telephone, and sit for extended periods of time, may lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

Job Skills:

• Proficiency with GIS software, specifically the ESRI suite of software. 
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and creation of online dashboards desirable. 
• Proficiency with Python Scripting desirable.
• Experience working with Lidar and other raster/image formats. 
• Understanding and practice of spatial concepts and mapping techniques. 
• Understanding and practice of good spatial data management. 
• Ability to work in teams of subject matter experts from different fields.
• Ability to work with public and private sector clients. 
• Excellent written and oral communication. 
• Strong attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
• Enthusiastic, energetic, team-oriented individual. 
• Proficiency with GPS data collections and post-processing 
• Proficiency with MS Access and SQL databases. 
• Additional programming experience (Java, C#, C) considered a plus. 

Required Education and/or Experience:

• 2 to 8 years’ experience in GIS, forestry, or environmental related field Experience in a professional services firm a plus.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

• Technical certifications (e.g., GISP, GIS Graduate Certificate) desirable. 
• BS or BA in Geography, natural resources, forestry, or a related field preferred. ​
