GIS Application Developer (Journey Level)

Agency Mission:
 Ecology's mission is to protect, preserve and enhance Washington's environment and to promote the wise management of our air, land and water for the benefit of current and future generations.   

Program Mission:
 The Information Technology Services Office (ITSO) is the central provider of strategic and tactical support for the use of Information Technology (IT) within Ecology.  The mission of ITSO is to create and support useful technology services that adapt for the future and support Ecology's mission.

Unit Mission:
 The ITSO Water Quality Information Services Unit is specifically tasked with providing application architecture, development, implementation, and maintenance support for the Water Quality Program's systems.

What you will do in this position:
 You will use Esri, Python, and the Microsoft suite to create and maintain geospatial applications and databases for the Water Quality Program. You will consult with program staff and provide specialized guidance on these applications. Specific this includes:
  • Serving as the technical leader of application development projects, developing and maintaining geospatial applications that provide agency staff, external stakeholders, and the public with information needed to assist with scientific analysis and decision making.
  • Consulting with clients to determine business and system requirements, designing and analyzing solutions, and ensuring the customer is satisfied with the end results so that the Water Quality Program can accomplish their work of protecting Washington's environment.
  • Maintaining the internet and intranet GIS data and documentation. This includes working with the program data stewards and external data providers, and providing a user-friendly interface to inquire about agency GIS data.
  • Serving as the GIS analyst for the Water Quality Program, ensuring that environmental data is analyzed correctly so that program staff can make sound policy decisions.
