Geographic Information Systems Coordinator

Job Description
Columbia Land Trust is actively seeking a part-time GIS technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing GIS technical support and GIS task management for conservation, stewardship  and planning projects. Primary duties include assisting with day-to-day GIS project tasks for the organization projects, including GIS data management, collecting, analyzing, and mapping geographic data, and creating cartographic products for display and reports.


Responsibilities of this position include the following:

• Interpret designs, plans, plat maps and legal descriptions to automate, update, and correct map data; conducts mapping research in the field and office; collects global positioning system (GPS) data.
• Complete data conversion, digitizing, spatial data editing, data validation and maintenance of digital infrastructure spatial data and related attribute information.
• Conducts analysis of data and performs QC/QA related activities; data validation, cartography, etc.
• Identify and reconcile mapping/data discrepancies.
• Provide input and perform testing as necessary in support of ongoing GIS development work. .
•  Perform source material acquisition, analysis, documentation and archiving of digital and hardcopy data/maps.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

•   BA/BS degree from a U.S. accredited college or university in geography, environmental studies/science, planning, or related field. A minimum of 12 credit hours in GIS-specific courses is also required. Please provide a list of completed GIS coursework.

•  One to five years of work experience as a GIS Technician or Analyst.

• Competence in working with ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop suite (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox) and extensions (i.e., Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst). Ability to perform GIS data conversion/editing, spatial analysis/reporting tasks, spatial database management, and GIS map production.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.

• Organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as attention to detail.

•  Must be able to formulate and clearly communicate ideas, both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to work both independently with little guidance and within a collaborative group environment.

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the above requirements and have the following:

•  Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information System (GIS), Geography or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
•  Experience with ArcGIS 10.1
