The Information Technology Section has the primary responsibility for design, acquisition, programming, operation, training, and support of Department-wide computer systems. In addition, the section assists the operating units of the Department with their local needs. The section also does planning for the department-wide network, including budget guidelines, and makes policy recommendations related to computer systems and their usage. There are currently twenty positions in the section. This position works as a member of the GIS Unit which supports the Department of Forestry's mission by providing GIS and mapping services to the Department's Programs located throughout the state. The GIS Unit services include: development and printing of maps; operating mobile fire mapping units on large fire incidents; coordination of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) implementation; design and development of spatial data; and GIS analysis. The purpose of the position is to manage and maintain the Agency's enterprise level spatial databases. The position is responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrade, monitoring and maintenance of the agency's enterprise geodatabases. The position is also responsible for the design of spatial databases, improving database performance and capacity, and planning for future expansion requirements. This position frequently works with other state and federal agencies, local governments, the private sector, and the public to collect and analyze spatial data.
