GIS Specialist w/ City of Beaverton (OR)

The City of Beaverton’s Information Technology and Service Department has an opening for a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Specialist. This position provides design, development, and maintenance of geospatial datasets and cartographic products for both internal and external customers.
 
The GIS Specialist interprets original documents such as civil engineering plans and enters data into the enterprise GIS system using ESRI software. The GIS Specialist is responsible for collecting and validating field data using GPS and mobile devices. In addition, the GIS Specialist creates maps, performs moderate to complex analysis, and assists other city departments in using GIS applications.
 
This is a full-time, non-exempt, SEIU-classified position. There is one vacancy.

Responsibilities
  1. Create, manage, and maintain geospatial databases. Perform data entry, maintenance, and data review activities. 
  2. Install GIS related software on employee computers. 
  3. Assist with resolving and troubleshooting GIS related problems and requests.
  4. Perform GIS analysis, modeling, and reporting to support city department decision-making.
  5. Provide training to city employees with GIS programs and applications.
  6. Update and maintain ArcGIS online content.
  7. Provide technical support to city employees.
  8. Configure GPS software and import GPS data into existing database.
  9. Provide city GIS database for use by the public, other local agencies, and private companies. 
  10. Perform image processing to retrieve and create spatial database from raw image data. 
  11. Provide specialized GIS customer service to city staff for various projects requests.
  12. Additional duties outlined in the GIS Specialist class specification.  

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Engineering, Geography, Business, Planning or a related field; and
  • 2 years of experience in Geographic Information Systems including experience designing, creating, maintaining, and analyzing geospatial and tabular data; or 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.

Compensation
Wage Range: $28.19 - $37.77 hourly
Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
