Discovery Management Group is a small consulting business in West Linn/Oregon City that specializes on GPS/GNSS and Mobile GIS technology. We work on national and international projects, typically centered on projects that involve high-precision GPS. For example, we work with global agricultural companies implementing precision agriculture technology, which is a mixture of high-precision GPS and GIS. We also work with large US-based utility companies in the same areas. The company began in 2002 and initially focused on GPS/GIS consulting and we did a lot of golf course mapping (as you can see by the website). Beginning in 2006, we expanded to focus on three areas: 1. Continued GPS/GIS consulting services. 2. GPS/GIS product distribution and support. 3. Editorial content and workshops. I'm a monthly contributing editor to GPS World and editor of Geospatial Solutions. We conduct a number of technical workshops and on-site training. Our workload is such that we need more help. We are looking for someone who is comfortable in the Esri environment and is somewhat familiar with Python programming to write geoprocessing scripts for automating tasks. Other job tasks include: -testing and preparing high-precision GPS receivers for clients. -providing telephone and email technical support to clients who are using high-precision GPS receivers and Esri software (and other) products on iOS, Android and Windows devices. -providing live training to clients, either in person or via web. -working on various R&D projects. -various tasks involved with the day to day operations of a highly technical consulting company. We are primarily interested in people with the following traits: -Energetic, entrepreneurial attitude. -Technical aptitude and general curiosity about technology. -Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and digitally, with clients. -Ability to effectively manage projects and schedules. -Comfortable in GIS environment. -Some Python programming exposure. If the person has a technical aptitude, we can train them on high-precision GPS receivers, horizontal/vertical datums, mobile devices and other related technologies.
