​Job Summary
The City of Salem is looking for three Geographic Information System (GIS) Technicians to be a part of the Public Works Operations Division, Technical Services Section. We are looking for individuals with entry level GIS experience! This is a great opportunity to begin your GIS career!

At the City of Salem, GIS Technicians ensure data from engineering drawings and plans are digitized correctly in the City’s GIS enterprise system. These positions will also serve in the Public Works UAS program as UAV pilots. These exciting positions will help refine and support a GIS based asset management system as well as support data collection, web GIS applications, and minor analysis. If you enjoy working with GIS software applications, eager to learn, and work in a team environment that support the entire Public Works Department, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

What are the minimum qualifications?

• Must pass the pre-employment background check.
• Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
• Bachelor's degree in geography, planning, engineering, business, computer technology or related course of study; and one year GIS software application experience which includes designing, creating, maintaining and analyzing geospatial and tabular data; and writing GIS script or applications programming, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
• Must pass the FAA Part 107 exam within 6 months from date of hire and maintain certification during employment.
• Must meet CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) registration and requirements within 6 months of hire.
