Nongame GIS Technician (Wyoming)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Will serve as the project technical lead on a collaborative effort between The Nature Conservancy and Wyoming Game and Fish Department to conduct a vulnerability assessment for Species of Greater Conservation Need (SGCN), as identified in the State Wildlife Action Plan. The project will model potential response of SGCNs and wildlife habitats to future changes in climate, anthropogenic developments, invasive species, and wildlife disease.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Responsibilities may include but are limited to: creating new and updating existing shapefiles and geodatabases, completing analyses with raster datasets, photo interpretation, developing habitat, species, and threat models, and fulfilling data requests.
  • Responsible for assisting the Nongame Program with a wide range of GIS needs for terrestrial birds and mammals, including developing deliverables (e.g., maps, shapefiles, etc.) and assisting with planning in support of on-going field projects.
  • Other job duties and responsibilities include: supporting field efforts by assisting with survey planning and GPS interface, maintaining GIS library, and performing other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Must be an organized, motivated, self-starter with a positive attitude and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be proficient in the ESRI suite of ArcGIS software and geoprocessing tools including spatial analyst, X-Tools pro.
  • Requires skills in spatial analysis, geospatial database development, and handheld data collection.
  • Requires proficiency with raster and vector datasets and analysis.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to applicants that have prior experience with ESRI ArcGIS 9.x or 10.x and spatial modeling.
