Pacific Northwest Research Station Station Director’s Office 1220 SW 3rd Avenue, Suite 1400; Portland, OR 97204 Visual Information Specialist GS-1084-09 The Pacific Northwest (PNW) Research Station is seeking an exceptional employee for a permanent position as a GS-1084-9 Visual Information Specialist. This position is located at the USDA Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Research Station, located in Portland, Oregon. Designs Publications, Exhibits, and Presentations The Visual Information Specialist (VIS) uses knowledge of a variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual products to perform layout of technical and non-technical publications and other communication products such as station series publications, PowerPoint presentations, pamphlets, brochures, newsletters, posters, briefing sheets and manuals. Plans the technical details and produces, aesthetically composed visual products for dissemination by print and/or electronic means. This work involves the designs and the placement of text, art and figures using Desktop Publishing (InDesign) and Graphics (PhotoShop, Illustrator, etc.) software to produce page layouts. Computer graphics software and peripheral devices are used to scan copy and graphics, manipulate images, collect and transfer files to colleagues and contractors, "print out" hard copies and convert files for use on the agency web page, etc. Other software is used for reporting job information, and to produce forms required for the printing of government publications. The employee converts electronic word processing files of authors manuscript to produce print ready electronic layouts of publications, e.g.: books, brochures, flyers, PowerPoint presentations, and other printed and electronic communications products. Incumbent follows USDA, Forest Service, and PNW graphic standards and requirements when appropriate; and. ensures that the final products are suitable for their intended audiences.
