Wildlife Biologist II: South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Opening date: 12/14/2012 Closing date: 01/02/2013 5pm ET Open to external applicants State Salary Range: $31,182 - $57,695 Agency Hiring Range: Min $35,586 Max $44,438 Job Type: Temporary Grant - Full-Time Location: Charleston County, South Carolina Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:30 - 5:00) Job responsibilities: Generate an annual oyster polygon layer in GIS database format incorporating updates throughout the year as helicopter-based corrections are completed. Coordinate with Office of Fisheries Management (OFM) regarding reassessment schedule. Provide support to OFM for the annual production of permit (culture and mariculture) maps, incorporating information from OFM and SCDHEC and completing certifications of acreages. Arrangement, implementation and post-collection processing of helicopter-based image acquisition (and/or new imagery acquired from other sources). Production of data, maps and other digital products needed for reports, presentations and proposals as needed by the Shellfish Research Section manager (included for the NERRS Science Collaborative). Assistance with Shellfish Research Section fieldwork associated with the SWG, TNC and NERRS Science Collaborative grant-funded research projects. Minimum and Additional Requirements: A master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field and two (2) years of work related experience. Preferred Qualifications: High levels of proficiency working with ArcGIS and Microsoft Access; experience working with aerial imagery and database management. Willingness and ability to participate in a variety of research projects in challenging environments (saltmarshes, oyster reefs, mudflats).
