Position Summary Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept This position works under the Institute for Natural Resources (INR), the Department of Environmental Science & Management (ESM). The Institute for Natural Resources – Portland is part of the Institute for Natural Resources (INR) based at Oregon State University in Corvallis. The INR was created by OSU and the Oregon Legislature in 2001 as an independent institute in the Research Office of OSU. As a research institute, INR helps decision makers identify and use relevant science in making natural resource policy and management decisions. INR works with local, state, federal, non-profit, and private organizations to produce maps, assessments, scientific reviews, datasets, and analyses for use in conservation planning, prioritization, and management. Position Summary This position is responsible for working with the Institute for Natural Resources (INR), the Department of Environmental Science & Management (ESM), Center for Lakes and Reservoirs (CLR), and Berry Botanic Seed Bank at PSU staff to gather, collate, and disseminate information on invasive species found within Oregon, perform field work related to invasive species, rare species, and seed collection, assist with the Seed Bank, and other program support. The position includes administration of the Oregon iMap Invasives program and Oregon Invasive Species Hotline including solicitation and distribution of data and networking with regional invasives organizations for training and support. It will also include participation in outreach events including the PSU farmer’s market. Primary Activity R - Research Minimum Qualifications Minimum education level includes a bachelor’s degree in botany, ecology, horticulture or related field. No previous experience required. Preferred Qualifications Preferred education level includes a graduate degree in botany, ecology, horticulture or related field and at least 1 year directly working with plants. Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity. The starting annual salary for this position will be $61,332 but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR. GIS Intern working in the Environmental Stewardship section of the Willamette Valley Project (WVP) for the Army Corps of Engineers. WVP is a major water resource project responsible for operating 13 dams and managing natural resources and recreation in the lakes and surrounding lands. We manage nearly 50,000 acres in the Willamette, McKenzie, and Santiam watersheds. The Environmental Stewardship section is known for our community partnerships in natural resource preservation and restoration. Primary duties include data acquisition, data management, natural resource GIS mapping, and field GPS data collection. Data analysis for projects related to cultural and historic resources, Master Plan development, threatened and endangered plants and wildlife, invasive plants, habitat restoration, easements and land ownership, and hydrology. Additional duties may include field support of other natural resource programs such as botany, wildlife biology, cultural resources monitoring, boundary surveys and park operations. Compensation amounts: – $375 – weekly living allowance – $40 weekly commuting allowance – $950 – monthly housing allowance (12 months of housing) – $2,500 duty travel reimbursement + one-time UP TO $650* reimbursable (to/from site travel for selected candidates outside the Eugene/Springfield area) – Monthly Health insurance (optional for 12 months) – AmeriCorps eligible ($6,495 education award for 1700 hours of service & completion of internship) *Internship positions with the US Army Corps of Engineers will receive the travel allowance as a reimbursable amount, reflecting the actual costs based upon distance (mileage) travelled and current federal per diem rates.
