Description:
The Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is the state’s federally-designated historic preservation office. In partnership with communities, organizations and individuals, the SHPO works to identify, interpret and preserve historic places for the benefit of present and future generations.

Working under the direction of the SHPO’s GIS Coordinator, this Limited Term Employee (LTE) will undertake a special project to digitally map over 400 of Wisconsin’s National Register listed historic districts and complexes in the Office’s Geographic Information System (GIS) using the state parcel map layer. The original paper maps range from hand sketched site plans to municipally generated parcel maps.  The position requires an individual who displays a high attention to detail and who is able to interpret both visual and verbal descriptions of site boundaries. While a basic knowledge of GIS is preferred, it is not required.

The position is scheduled for up to 40 hours a week for up to three months. The position will remain open until it is filled.

Seeking highly qualified applied practitioners of GIS and geospatial/geostatistical analyses to join the Western Ecological Research Center’s Sage-Grouse Research Program, with positions located at either the Dixon, CA or Reno, NV field stations.

The selected applicant(s) will develop geospatial applications and models through various modeling applications and programming languages, with a priority of providing science products to help answer research questions related to sage-grouse ecology and sagebrush ecosystems at
local, state, and national levels. Most applications are focused on complex raster-based operations, as well as some remote sensing work (e.g. land cover classification, object recognitions). Desired expertise includes, ArcGIS, Spatial Analyst, Model Builder, Python, Program R, data management, and metadata compliance.  Ability to work independently by coming up with creative solutions to complex data problems, and also work and communicate as part of a cohesive team, is a plus.

This is a GS-06/07 TERM appointment, not to exceed 4 years and renewed after the 1st year pending performance and funding. Join Sanborn’s award-winning team! Sanborn is looking for a Junior Natural Resources GIS Analyst to support a Regional Land Status and Land Adjustments Project. This project is integral to the land ownership adjustment, non-recreation special uses and boundary adjustment programs. This may include land exchanges, land sales, right-of-way acquisitions, donations and purchases. The position shall require input of data into LSRS, both tabular and spatial, and integration with the Land Adjustment Data System (LADS) as well as other related duties. Work in this position shall require knowledge of and demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office software and ESRI ArcGIS 9x/10x. The position is located in Vallejo, CA. 

TASKS
• Preparing Land Status Reports.
• Entering deed information, reservations, outstanding rights, etc., into the Land Status Record System (LSRS) following established protocols.
• Interpreting historic records.
• Interpreting Master Title Plats.
• Maintaining land status records. 
• Responding quickly to requests for land status records.
• Maintaining LSRS corporate-wide applications to disseminate GIS Maps. 
• Maintaining relationships with personnel and other technical experts as necessary.
• Participating in meetings with lands, boundary and other program leads.
• Participating in field trips to county assessors as needed.
• Working with Regional Realty Specialists and other Information Management Staff.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must minimally meet the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below:
• Knowledge and demonstrated skills in the use of Esri software, specifically ArcGIS 9x/10x.
• Knowledge and demonstrated skills in the use of Microsoft Office software.
• Ability to interpret, analyze, correlate and evaluate thematic map data and records.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Familiarity with GIS principles and Esri GIS software products.
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS 
Applicants will be given priority for those who have:
• Working knowledge of databases.
• Background knowledge of public land records and infrastructure.
• Ability to learn and use ParcelQuest software.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry, Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Soils, Geology, Hydrology, Geography or related degree.
• One year of intensive and progressive experience requiring extensive use of GIS and related tools.
• Master’s degree in GIS –accounts for one year experience requirement.
