Currently we are seeking a GIS Mapping Specialist to join our team.

 
As the GIS Mapping Specialist your primary responsibilities will include the creation of professional final products using ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Additionally, you will be tasked with making maps, running demographic analyses and reports, data collection, and maintenance of proprietary databases.

 
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Create text, logo and aerial maps using ArcGIS and Adobe Illustrator
  • Maintain the quality of our proprietary database to ensure accuracy
  • Create competition maps from our databases to show proximity to existing or proposed stores
  • Create demographic reports using ArcGIS Business Analyst
  • Assist in data collection and acquisition
  • Research market data pertaining to retail development and store openings

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Visual Arts, GIS or related field
  • Strong skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Experience using GIS particularly ArcGIS and MapInfo
  • MS Access skills (Query, Append...)
  • Ability to write functions in MS Excel
  • Ability to multitask and meet client deadlines
  • Familiar with Google Earth and Google Earth Professional
  • Detailed and passionate about accuracy
  • 2 years professional experience using GIS preferably in a retail or commercial real estate environment
  • Experience working with demographic data
  • Familiar with basic statistics
  • Strong cartographic skills
  • Adobe Illustrator experience needed, additional graphics orientation desired
  • Real estate experience a plus
  • Python or other scripting language a plus (VB, C#...)
  • ArcGIS Online

JOB DUTIES:
This position is the LAKES (Linking Applied Knowledge in Environmental Sustainability) Research Coordinator for Watershed Social Science Research. Responsibilities include: (A) providing administrative assistance to the Social Science Research Center (SSRC) and LAKES Project; (B) maintaining ongoing database of watershed social data; (C) collaboration and coordination with the Red Cedar Watershed Partnership group; (D) data collection and analysis of watershed attributes (social, cultural, economic, geographic, and historical); and (E) co-management of student researchers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment including sensitivity to personal and confidential information.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills in working with a diverse community.
  • Excellent quantitative, and qualitative research capabilities in data collection and analysis.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in the social sciences.
  • Have the ability to delegate and prioritize work.

The starting salary is $19.23 per hour. A six-month probation is required. This position also requires a valid driver's license. The Student Conservation Association (SCA) GIS Intern

El Malpais & El Morro National Monuments
 
Position
El Malpais National Monument is in the process of collecting of cave-related data and information and needs more field investigation of these cave resources. The selected SCA intern will have both in-office and field duties organizing and digitizing existing cave data from a variety of sources(i.e. creating metadata, building geodatabases, etc.),  assist in the development of remote sensing procedures to monitor resources, assist in the development of  a protocol for field surveys using ArcGIS Collector, and cave mapping. Any new caves found will need to be named - a fun perk for this position. Duties will be split evenly between these indoor and outdoor tasks, or as weather and workloads require. Come explore our caves and lava flows, and help us build our cave management program! Upon successful completion of the GIP internship, the participant is eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award.
 
Field work will involve navigating rough backcountry roads, hiking on lava flows in remote wilderness, mapping resources using a differential GPS, and mapping lava tube caves.The high desert environment of El Malpais ranges from 7-8,000 feet in elevation.We have over 400 lava tubes that can be up to a mile long and some contain the most southerly perennial ice in North America.  Office work will include using software including ArcGIS 10.3, ENVI, Microsoft Access, Adobe Illustrator.

One internship is available; duration: July 2016 through January 2017; 20 hours per week.

The purpose of this Bike/Ped Count Program internship is to provide a learning opportunity by teaching interns about active transportation planning techniques, including data collection, entry and analysis. Interns will also gain experience organizing the initiative with multiple agency partners and volunteers. Interns will learn about regional planning. 

This internship is open to students who are pursuing continued academic interest or further work experience in the areas of Planning, Community Development, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Public Administration and Management or a related field. Preferred candidates should have completed a minimum of two years of education in the related field and are receiving academic credit from an educational institution or should be recent graduates from a two- or four-year college with professional experience or academic interest in the related areas.

Job Description
CoStar Field Research Photographers are the talented and versatile team responsible for photography, videography, and research in the array of CoStar products. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment (camera, Steadicam, and vehicle) our Field Research Photographers collect data on commercial properties, photograph exteriors/interiors of commercial properties, and film video space tours for commercial properties in their defined geographic territories. Field Research Photographers are remotely managed by a Field Research Manager located in our headquarters in downtown Washington, DC or in Chicago. Each Field Research Photographer is given a core territory in which the person is responsible for the research, photography, and videography of the commercial properties.

Essential functions of a Field Research Photographer:
  • Photograph and collect data on all commercial properties with for lease and for sale signs working in entire assigned territory
  • Drive ½ square mile areas, within core territory, searching for all commercial properties, flexible schedule based on weather possible
  • Collect all visible data fields about the property including, but not limited to, the address, building  type, # of stories, gross building area, building height, industrial loading information, retail specific details
  • Use Photoshop software to correct digital images
  • Create video tours using digital SLR and Steadicam; edit final videos using Final Cut ProX
  • Create footprint and rooftop geocode for each building using polygon tool in field mapping software
  • Associate any assigned tenant locations to polygon, and photograph tenant space
  • Follow daily Field Research procedures involving regular communication with manager and uploading data
  • Understand and maintain a pre-determined measure of quality for daily work as well as special projects
  • Photograph and collect data for at least 25 buildings per day when grid canvassing
  • Visually scan at least 200 buildings per day while driving, resulting in an average minimum of 15 new potential listings (leasing and/or sale signs) per day when working on lead project
  • Professionally communicate with property managers and customers via phone, e-mail, and in person.
  • Abide by CoStar safety standards
  • Maintain company vehicle and equipment
  • Represent CoStar in a professional manner at all times
  • Participate in monthly conference calls with sales and research teams
  • Represent Field Research at occasional trade functions
  • Flexible schedule based on weather possible

  • May provide demonstrations, presentations and produce documents on the GIS platform of work being done by BPA to both internal and external customers.  Final documents must be reviewed and approved by BPA staff.
  • With oversight from the BPA Manager/BPA Staff, assist the geospatial team in development of a cloud-based mobile workflow for Valuation and Forestry.
  • Utilize SharePoint to add new material to the Valuation and Forestry site
  • Support the timely delivery of forestry and danger tree data between Valuation and Forestry and other organizational units such as TFBV (Vegetation Management) used in the design, acquisition, maintenance and construction of BPA’s transmission facilities.
  • With oversight and approval by BPA Staff, create mobile projects for Danger Tree and Forestry using ESRI software. The mobile projects will be shared with internal BPA customers and individual landowners as well as other external customers.  Mobile projects will include:
  • Design and prepare parcel exhibits with tree points for landowners and project managers
  • Design and prepare parcel exhibits with acquisition tracts for appraisers when requested
  • Locate, download and send shape files of acquisition data when requested
  • Assist in the maintenance and use of ESRI navigation tool
  • Trimble Hardware/Software data collection and tracking:
  • Deploy projects on Trimble data collectors
  • Post-process, load and edit newly acquired field data into mobile database
  • Run the volume calculator on asset data
  • Assist other members of Valuation and Forestry team in editing field data
  • Collect field data to include identification of danger trees off the Right-of-Way; including species, height, and defect
  • Maintain and track Trimble data collectors as they are used and checked out
  • Assist with data collection in the field
  • Conduct Trimble field training when requested
 
Position Requirements:
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a GIS-related field, such as computer science, geography, cartography, forestry, natural resources, landscape architecture and environmental, urban or regional planning, with a strong emphasis in computer-assisted spatial analysis is highly desirable (if no degree, additional work experience is required – see below).
  • Minimum Experience Required: Level 2position –4 - 6 years (with bachelor’s degree in fields specified above; 6+ years without degree or degree not in specified fields, as noted above) of directly-related experience in GIS Support, providing professional GIS services utilizing computerized data capture, storage and analysis is required.
  • Basic knowledge of image processing, remote sensing and LiDAR data mediums is desired.
  • Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS software is required.
  • Proficiency with Trimble Hardware/Software is required.
  • Experience and proficiency with PC operating systems and standard office software (Microsoft Office Suite 2010 - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) is required.

General Requirements:
