Performs intermediate technical work related to Geographic Information System (GIS), Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), or Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, spatial and tabular databases, and related work as apparent or assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in computer science, engineering, geography, GIS, or related field and two (2) years experience providing technical engineering support, including one (1) year in the design, development, programming, implementation, and maintenance of GIS programs and applications, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

None
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or related field
  • Six (6) years of GIS experience
  • Functional knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software.
  • Functional knowledge of Hexagon\Intergraph GeoMedia software.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL (Structed Query Language)
  • Ability to multitask in many software products (applications, database, spreadsheets, etc)
  • Good communication skills through verbal, written, telephonic and presentation forms
  • Strong desire and ability to learn
  • Ability to travel for training and conferences

The GIS Manager is responsible for the oversight, administration, scheduling, approvals, and reporting of the subcontracted professional services firm(s). Responsibilities include coordination with the materials management team and construction management team to ensure documentation is complete and accurate.                                                                                                                                                                                      
MAJOR JOB ELEMENTS 
  • Responsible for certain stages of GDB 2.0 submittal (HLD, Site Survey, RTC, and As-Built)
  • Work closely with the GIS Engineer to determine the best processes for tackling new requirements within the project
  • Interprets design needs into GIS implementation not only from a mapping perspective but also quantitatively
  • Oversee the daily process flow of the GIS team in providing GDB 2.0 submittals
  • Responsible for updating data mapping roles and responsibilities
  • Ensure engineering/design activities comply with Company and contract requirements and support overall schedule.
  • Coordinate with team to assure completeness and correctness of design and construction documents.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of field computer applications to facilitate the control and collection of data for mapping (gps)(gis)(kmz), inspection, quantity performance, schedule performance, as-build documentation, and subcontract administration. 
  • Interface with on-site construction crews as required ensuring safety is maintained, quality of construction, adherence to overall project schedule, and tracking productivity goals. 

QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Masters in Geospatial/Geographic Information Science or relevant project experience may be substituted for education.
  • 3+ Years Design Manager/GIS Lead
  • Well rounded in data structures in different areas of a fiber build
  • Extensive 3GIS experience
  • Experience with server/feature mapping services
  • Ability to interpret design needs into GIS implementation from a  spacial/quantitative aspect
  • Python and SQL experience required
  • OSP experienced preferred
  • Have a high level of written and oral communication skills. 
  • Telecom experience is preferred
  • Must have computer skills in Microsoft Office programs
  • Familiar with surveying applications and data management a plus.

GSI Water Solutions, Inc. (GSI), an employee-owned water resources and environmental management consulting firm, is seeking a motivated, environmental database manager to support our water resources and environmental management practices on a wide variety of projects. We are looking for a candidate to help us establish and grow the environmental data management service line across our offices located in California and Oregon.
The successful candidate will be based in our corporate office in Portland, Oregon, and work with GSI scientists and water resources analysts to manage environmental and water-related data for our public and private clients in the Pacific Northwest and California. You will use your talents to help us address tough issues, such as clean drinking water supplies for the future and the evaluation and remediation of large contaminated sites and rivers. You will also use your entrepreneurial spirit to grow a self-sustaining group within GSI. Primary Duties
  • Collect and configure large relational environmental data sets to meet project specifications.
  • Develop and use data validation tools in Excel, Access, and SQL to identify data quality issues.
  • Document work processes, recommend quality assurance/quality control procedures, compose training documents, and conduct training sessions.
  • Implement, configure, and test commercial-off-the-shelf data management related software, such as EnviroData, to meet project specifications.
  • Act as a data quality liaison between the project staff, clients, analytical laboratory, data validator, and GIS analysts.
  • Provide reporting support by generating tables, charts, graphs, and 3D graphics to help interpret data and develop solutions to address complex problems.
  • Work independently to research and implement new methods to address emerging issues faced by our clients.

Qualifications
 
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the environmental field with an emphasis on environmental database management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, chemistry, engineering, or information technology.
  • Solid SQL and relational database skills (SQL Server, Microsoft Access).
  • Experience working with analytical data, including familiarity with electronic data deliverables (EDDs), detection limits, data qualifiers, etc.
  • Experience with Enviro Data software or other environmental data management solutions.
  • Knowledgeable in using MS Excel and Microsoft Access to manipulate and organize data sets for import into a database and for final reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgement, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Motivated, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
 
Additional Desired Qualifications 
  • Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization using R or other similar tools.
  • Experience linking analytical data to GIS and other graphing software using Geodatabases or other tools.

DESCRIPTION
The focus area of this REU site is computational modeling to serve and enhance the Portland metropolitan region as it grows and evolves. You will be involved in a cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary research project and trained in computational thinking across different disciplines and communities. You will learn the fundamental skills of computational modeling that will help you understand and solve complex problems in a complex world. After a 2-week initial training, each student will work on an 8-week research project completed in a research lab under a mentor’s guidance and with the involvement of a community partner. At the end of the internship, you will present the research outcomes to the community partner. Weekly site meetings, seminars, site visits, and a final symposium will enrich the unique internship and provide you with an intellectual toolbox that has the potential to have a lasting impact on your career.

ELIGIBILITY
- Completed one or two years of college.
- Majoring in a STEM or related discipline.
- US citizens or permanent resident.
- Students from institutions with limited STEM and research opportunities, such as 2-year community colleges, are encouraged to apply.

DESCRIPTION:
 
DEFINITION
Under general direction, to perform a variety of difficult and complex technical work related to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the development, revision and customization of maps on a computerized mapping system; to provide public assistance in explaining and interpreting maps and property descriptions; to prepare specialized reports for County and other governmental agencies showing relationships between departmental and other data bases; and to do related work as required.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a specialized Geographic Information Systems Specialist classification.  The incumbent has responsibility for the computerized mapping system and G.I.S. data base in various County departments.  In addition, a variety of skilled drafting or mapping work is performed.  This class is distinguished from the Cadastral Mapping class series by having day-to-day responsibility for a complex computerized mapping system and equipment and the G.I.S. database. 
 
REPORTS TO
A  variety of County supervisory or management positions depending upon the department or program area where assigned.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Has day-to-day responsibility for the County=s computerized mapping system and equipment; operates and maintains the G.I.S. database system; creates, updates or customizes specialized departmental maps, using the G.I.S. database and related information; computes acreage and land descriptions to accurate scale in the revision, correction, and maintenance of official maps and plats; generates maps to meet the needs of the public and various County departments; associates Assessor parcel attributes with geographical images; maintains  County mapping systems, may perform skilled drafting work in preparing and maintaining maps, drawings,  tracings,  and title sheets; represent both department and County on related committees.
 
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Two years of previous experience in working computerized mapping equipment and software, including experience in performing skilled drafting work and using GPS systems to create necessary spatial data.  
 
Advanced educational training in mathematical subjects such as geometry, advanced algebra, trigonometry, and completion of pre-engineering courses is highly desirable.

Join us for a workshop on working with spatial data in R. We will cover the basics of loading spatial data into R, manipulating spatial geographies, visualizing data, and drawing insights from publicly available spatial data sets. We will leverage the sf package and other tools within the tidyverse. Basic familiarity with R programming concepts suggested, no prior spatial data experience is required.
