GIS Technician w/ Maul, Foster & Alongi

MFA and FLO are seeking a temporary entry-level GIS Technician in our Portland, Oregon, office. This position is anticipated to be an exempt, full-time position for an initial three month period, with an opportunity for permanent employment. This position's primary role will be to support FLO's growth in GIS project work. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a broad range of GIS technical support on projects. Primary duties typically include the following tasks: research in support of FLO's market development; data compilation, standardization, and management; geographic data mapping; spatial analysis; web mapping application development and maintenance; cartographic product creation; and project reporting assistance. 

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree from a U.S. accredited college or university in geography, environmental studies/science, planning, or a related field with an emphasis in GIS
  • 12 credit hours in GIS-specific courses
  • Up to 2 years of work experience as a GIS Technician
  • Competence with Esri's ArcGIS Desktop suite (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox)
  • Proven ability to perform GIS data conversion/editing, spatial analysis/reporting tasks, database management, and GIS map production
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Able to formulate and communicate ideas, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and within a collaborative group environment
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access
Desired Skills and Abilities 

  • Experience working with ArcGIS Desktop suite of extensions (e.g., spatial analyst, network analyst)
  • Familiarity working within the geodatabase environment, including creating, editing, and management
  • Experience in advanced geospatial analysis and modeling principles using a variety of ArcGIS environments (e.g., ModelBuilder, Python scripting)
  • Experience with Esri's Web APIs, Server products, and/or ArcGIS Online
  • Experience in non-Esri web mapping environments
  • Completion of a statistics and/or spatial statistics college course

POSITION SUMMARY:
Earth Innovation Institute seeks a Research Assistant/Associate to carry out geospatial analysis and modeling, including processing remotely sensed imagery, for research projects focused on mapping, monitoring and modeling of land-use for policy analysis in the Tropics at multiple scales, incorporating spatial and other data sources. The successful candidate will have knowledge of tropical land-use/land-cover change dynamics, forest and agriculture systems, and related fields. The position requires advanced experience obtaining and processing a broad range of geospatial data, using a variety of software and geospatial tools and approaches, and the ability to manipulate large datasets and manage databases. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, show initiative, have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and possess the ability to continuously learn new technical skills as needed. The position reports to the lead Scientist, Regional Planning & Policy Analysis.

Under the direction of the Chief of the Maintenance Environmental Support Branch, the Research Program Specialist I (GIS) is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and processing spatial or geographic data through the operation of GIS/GPS hardware and software using ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS extensions and other GIS/GPS software tools; independently performing complex, technical research and analysis involving a variety of spatial or geographic data; and designing and developing GIS products including maps, and inputs to various GIS databases and applications in support of collection and dissemination of environmental records, field observations, maintenance and repair information, modeling data, remote sensing, climate, and flood control system data. The incumbent must work cooperatively with others; maintain regular and consistent attendance; exercise sound judgment; possess strong oral and written communication and presentation skills; and work in a courteous and professional manner with the public, media, and other agencies. The incumbent will play a leading role in providing enterprise GIS technology tools and services to FMO staff by working closely and collaboratively with a diverse team of environmental scientists, water resource engineers, geologists, utility craftsworkers in FMO’s maintenance yards, and information technology professionals. The position requires the applicant possess full knowledge of geography, cartography, and computer mapping; GIS/GPS hardware and software; and GIS data sources. Familiarity with relational database concepts and web-based application architecture is desirable. A Design Engineer/GIS Specialist job opportunity in Portland,Oregon is available courtesy of Adecco Engineering and Technology. You will provide computer-assisted design (CAD) services supporting design for new customer connections (single family, large residential, multi-family, commercial, and industrial) and for transmission and distribution integrity jobs (cut sheet, road widening, feeder, and transmission and distribution line). One plus years experience with ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 or above for map production and spatial analysis.

Design Engineer/GIS Specialist job responsibilities include:

• Ensure that the design and drafting concepts/details are accurately and clearly conveyed on drawings
• Utilize field notes/sketches, engineering drawings and customer-provided CAD files to prepare design and construction drawings
• Update electrical distribution model, in GIS, to record "as-built" changes
• Ensure that designs meet established drafting standards and mapping guidelines
• Prepare graphic and technical illustrations
• Knowledge of distribution overhead and underground design standards and materials
• Demonstrated knowledge of CAD theory and techniques, with minimum two years Micro Station experience

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Four years of experience in engineering design and drafting with technical school training; or two years of experience with an associate’s degree in computer-assisted design; or an associate’s degree in engineering technology with an emphasis in geographic information systems or computer-assisted drafting, design and theory
• One year experience with ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 or above for map production and spatial analysis
• Experience with Schneider ArcFM
• Experience with the electric utility business
• Ability to edit with ArcFM tools, Session Manager, and ArcFM feeder tracing

variety of different guidelines and principles to help make your maps
the envy of all your friends.  We all know a great map when we see it,
but what are the principles behind making a good map yourself?  GIS
has changed map making from a time honored handmade labor, to mass
producing large, data filled maps in minutes.This all-day symposium
will introduce you to the basic principles of cartography (map
making), guidelines you can follow for nearly every map,  and tips and
tricks for making your map fabulous.  More details, including a draft

This is an outstanding opportunity for the right person to become involved in Nelson\Nygaard's growing practice, which is focused on multimodal transportation planning for livable communities. Nelson\Nygaard's work emphasizes creative, innovative transit/transportation planning and community involvement, often within a wider set of goals such as economic development and reduced dependence on the private automobile. 

We seek an employee with a planning background who specializes in visual display of data, including creation of maps, infographics, plan views, cross sections, and 3-D renderings.  The position will assist on a range of projects including multimodal plans, TDM studies, transit studies, Active Transportation plans, Complete Streets design and policy work, transit-oriented development (TOD) plans, parking analysis, paratransit studies, among others.  

Responsibilities 

The Transportation Planning Intern is expected to:
 Analyze and map data in an engaging and user-friendly manner using ArcGIS
 Be familiar with ArcGIS analytical tools such as Spatial Analyst and Model Builder
 Have experience downloading and mapping Census and LEHD data
 Exhibit strong Illustrator skills to create infographics and polished maps
 Be an intermediate to advanced user of SketchUp, Photoshop, In Design, and AutoCAD
 Possess a natural design sense to create pleasing, informative, engaging, and easy-to-understand graphics.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should be enrolled in a graduate planning program in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Public Policy, or Geography; or have recently completed a bachelor’s degree in these topics.  Expertise in ArcGIS, Illustrator, and graphic design is required.  Solid experience with Adobe Photoshop, In Design, AutoCAD, and SketchUp is preferred. 

Salary and Benefits 

Expected hours are 29 per week.  Interns are paid between $18 and $20/hour, depending on experience. Secure bike parking on site.

The GIS Technician is a part of a large software system implementation. This role is an integral part of our GIS / GWD replacement project where the technician will assist with data clean-up and as-builting electric utility facilities in an ESRI enterprise geodatabase with ArcFM. They will coordinate with a team of others performing the same work, working in a fast-paced environment to meet project deadlines. 

Required Skills:
