Under general supervision, performs a variety of GIS services to support City public works operations, public access to information, Planning and Community Development services, and records management. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is conducted in both an office and field environment. Fieldwork is performed at times to review sites, collect data, and observe construction progress. Physical effort may be required to lift equipment and system parts up to 50 pounds. Occasional fieldwork and reconnaissance in ravines or other more rugged terrain. This position requires vision and hearing at level required to perform essential functions (may be corrected) and a full range of motor skills. This year, the Explorer-in-Training Program will feature two paid internship options: (a) 2 to 4-week expedition-based opportunities supporting ocean mapping operations on the Okeanos Explorer and (b) 10-week spring and summertime opportunities. The 10-week internships give participants an experiential learning opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge through long-term projects supported by NOAA Ocean Exploration mentors. The expedition-based internships provide support for specific NOAA Ocean Exploration expeditions, giving participants the chance to contribute to mission efforts while gaining tangible skills that benefit their future pursuits.
