Survey - Internship (Summer 2022) Added - 2022-02-02 Reporting Center - Portland Civil City - Portland, OR Company- KPFF Consulting Engineers Job Description Surveying Internship – 2022 We are seeking 1 student for a Summer internship position with our Survey Group in Portland, which runs May-August or June-September (depending on the student’s school schedule). A successful intern in our program is someone who enjoys being challenged -- you will work on real projects starting on day one! You will have opportunities to work on a crew out in the field and assist our Survey Office Technicians with CAD, performing a variety of tasks and drawing from the experience and resources of all the professionals in the firm. *Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Oregon state’s workplace mandates, our physical office is currently closed and all employees are working remotely. We were successful with remote-based internships in 2020 and 2021. We are confident this environment will continue to be effective for our 2022 interns. The City of Portland is seeking a Surveying Aide II to join the Portland Bureau of Transportation! About the positions: A Surveying Aide II assists a Survey Crew leader working on mapping, construction, monitoring and boundary/right-of-way projects for multiple City Bureaus. This position operates survey instruments, downloads field data into a computer, interprets construction plans, assists a Survey Crew Leader in setting up and organizing jobs and continues project work in the absence of the Survey Crew Leader. A Surveying Aide II and crew members often work in high traffic areas and projects crossing rough terrain. A Surveying Aide II helps ensure the safety of themselves and their crew at all times. This position must know how to operate current survey instruments and instruct others in their use. They must be familiar with office computers, standard software and file management practices. They must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors, co-workers, project team members and the public. They must be able to work well with others, particularly with people from diverse backgrounds. What you’ll get to do:
An ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and knowledge of how to operate current survey instruments and the ability to instruct others. They will have familiarity with office computers and standard software & file management practices. They will be a team player and have the ability to work with a variety of diverse internal and external stakeholders. Although not required, Prior public work experience; a Degree in Surveying, Geomatics or related major; or the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) or Principles and Practice of Surveying (PS) certifications are desired. The current vacancies are permanent full-time position located in the Portland Bureau of Transportation; however, other Bureaus may use this list to fill future vacancies. The ninth annual OSBEELS Symposium is quickly approaching and we will once again be hosting the College Student Showcase at this year’s event. Similar to prior years, we’re inviting all of our state’s ABET-accredited programs and student engineering and land surveying-related clubs to participate and showcase the great work done by students. We’re extending invitations to student clubs, research teams, campus organizations, and program ambassadors to join this event.
This year’s Symposium will take place on Friday, Sept. 13, at the Salem Convention Center. The event’s program will feature presentations on a wide range of engineering and land surveying topics. We’re planning on having the College Student Showcase event take place during the afternoon portion of the event. There is no cost to host a booth and lunch will be included. Our Board feels the showcase is a great opportunity for students to display their work, converse with professionals, and learn more about the work being done in our state. Students are invited to arrive early to set up their booths, enjoy lunch, and remain at the event following the College Student Showcase program should they wish too.
