This position will support PP&R Urban Forestry's tree planting programs, including the Yard Tree Giveaway program. In summer, work will include monitoring trees to assess health, planting, and survival. In fall, event preparation for 2021 tree giveaways will include event organization, registration support, tree delivery, and planting. This position represents the program to the public, works closely with tree recipients, and is responsible for collecting and managing tree data. The Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership seeks a Field Technician to provide support with the large Steigerwald Reconnection Project. The position runs from May 17, 2021 through October 15, 2021. All work takes place at an active construction site in Washougal, WA and will require being outdoors in all weather conditions, conducting physically demanding field work. Geospatial Trainer Intern Conservation International (CI) has been protecting nature for the benefit of all for over 30 years. Through science, policy, and partnerships, CI is helping build a healthier, more prosperous and more productive planet. POSITION SUMMARY The intern will support the Inclusive Conservation Technologies (ICT) initiative led by the Moore Center for Science. ICT aims to empower Indigenous Peoples with increased access to geospatial tools to uphold their rights and enhance land stewardship. For the internship, the intern will collate CI’s existing technical capacity-building materials and develop a learning curriculum designed for Indigenous Peoples who want to learn technical training approaches in GIS and remote sensing. The compiled capacity-building materials will improve the return on investment for developing these courses by repurposing and improving access and awareness of the materials within CI and external partners. The Training of Trainers (ToT) curriculum will be foundational to a globally-scaled approach to accelerate digital equity for conservation technologies through CI’s Indigenous Peoples' partners and networks. Brian Fulfrost and Associates is looking for someone to help them on a project of the Remote Sensing of tidal wetlands and mudflats. There is also possibility of additional work on the remote sensing of Harmful Algal Blooms. We are looking for an experienced Image/GIS analyst, or savvy student, to help us on a project that is utilizing high resolution satellite imagery to map tidal wetlands (salt, brackish and freshwater marshes) as well as tidal mudflats in South San Francisco bay. The job is a mix of QA/QC of habitat model results, Image processing and analysis, spatial data management, and GIS data editing. The core work involves creating training sites for vegetation classification and reviewing and QA/QC’ing classification results. Attention to detail is an essential skill for completing this task. Also, knowledge of vegetation, although not essential, would be useful. The job can include (but is not limited to) the following tasks: • GIS data management, • raster image processing and visualization (e.g. knowledge of multi-bands satellite imagery would be useful) , • vector data creation and editing, • raster data analyses (knowledge of how to calculate band ratios/indices, unsupervised classification and supervised classification would be useful) and • metadata documentation. |
