Location: Portland, OR
Salary: $57,678.40 - $77,334.40 Annually
Closing: 3/29/2018 5:00 PM Pacific

Position Summary
You've heard that "data is the new bacon", meaning that the demands are for greater quality and greater quantity. In Metro's Research Center, our mantra is "Great data informs great decisions."  We are looking for someone who wants to join a small team of data professionals who are maintaining and expanding one of the most comprehensive geospatial databases in the country, and one that has been continuously maintained and published for more than 20 years.  Our newest challenge is supplying the data for a geospatially-derived Performance Measures Program. We're hoping for someone who wants to grow with this program.

The person filling this position will perform skilled technical duties related to the Metro's Geographic Information System (GIS) with a primary focus on data development and maintenance, analysis and map production activities, including the responsibility for GIS and database quality assurance and the creation of procedural documents and metadata.

This is a limited-duration position currently funded through June 2019. We will be seeking to extend this position to a regular (non-limited) position within Enterprise Services prior to the expiration of the current limited duration period.

Supervision is provided by the Research Center Enterprise Services Manager.

Metro, a regional government in Portland, OR, works with communities, businesses and residents in the Portland metropolitan area to chart a wise course for the future while protecting the things we value about this place. The work and decisions made by Metro are supported by the Regional Land Information System (RLIS). RLIS consists of 100s of data layers, consumes terabytes of disk space that is used by a range of analysts and applications.

The Assistant GIS Specialist performs a variety of professional GIS tasks. We are looking for a professional who is familiar with the maintenance and application of a variety of GIS data, and wants to grow their career. The position will focus on creating, maintaining and improving various datasets that are part of Metro's enterprise data in RLIS.

At Metro, we hire a workforce representative of the communities we serve, understanding that a diverse workforce strengthens our organization. We value diversity and support a positive and welcoming environment where all of our employees can thrive.
