SUMMARY

The GIS Analyst delivers geospatial analytics across the entire energy system value chain, including the siting of renewable energy projects, delivery of energy efficiency programs, assessments of energy equity, and assessment of EV adoption rates. They are responsible for delivering high-quality GIS data and analytics to internal project teams and external customers.
 
Reporting into the Director of GIS North America (Head of Section), the GIS Analyst will be responsible for undertaking geospatial data collection, processing and analysis, automating GIS workflows and producing thematic maps in the GIS section that is part of DNV Energy Advisory North America Analytics and Digitalization (A&D) Department. DNV is looking for a dynamic and rigorous individual that will be able to contribute to the company’s studies, reports and tools through well thought-out static or interactive mapping products, as well as to assist with gathering geospatial data and the automation of the workflows (programming).

The level of the position will be commensurate with the level of experience.
This position can be remote from anywhere in the US with preference for candidates residing near a DNV Office.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

What You'll Do 
  • Research, inventory, analysis and integration of geospatial data;
  • Undertake geospatial analysis and modeling (multi-criteria analysis, network analysis, etc.);
  • Assistance with development of tools to support work automation (ArcPy, Model Builder, Jupyter Notebook);
  • Assist with the development of new geospatial tools and GIS services to support the energy transition;
  • Produce thematic maps;
  • Assist with renewable energy project site selection and characterization studies;
  • Occasional assistance with creating inputs for wind and solar energy assessments;
  • Occasional assistance with research and reporting for environmental mandates, such as environmental impact studies, environmental phase 1 ESA and technical siting studies (e.g. visual assessment, shadow flicker assessment, electromagnetic interference study); and
  • Occasional site visits.​

Position Qualifications
What is Required
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Thorough knowledge of the ESRI ecosystem (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online);
  • Knowledge of basic GIS concepts (mapping, GPS, GIS, data integration, coordinate systems, etc.);
  • Proficiency with MS Office Word/Excel;
  • Excellent analytical and reporting abilities;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication and presentation abilities

  • Individual should display a positive, team-oriented attitude to match our friendly work environment.
 
What is Preferred
  • A university degree in Geomatics Engineering, Geomatics Sciences, Geographic Information Systems or Environmental Geomatics or Environmental Science, Geography and Geospatial Science (3- or 4-years degree in Geomatics is preferred over a GIS certificate);
  • Competency in programming (Python language);
  • 2+ years of professional experience working with GIS data and ESRI products;
  • 2+ years of experience working in multi-discipline teams with proven ability to collaborate;
  • Experience in renewable energy, environmental risk, or energy utilities; and
  • Willing to travel up to 5% of the time in North America, including domestic and international.
