Position: GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist, Land-based emission reduction accounting 
Term: Full-time 
Location: San Francisco, CA, USA. Must be U.S. Work Eligible

As a group, Terra has more global experience in the land-use sector than any other entity and is committed to working with its local partners to build capacity and support local communities and governments to sustainably manage their land. Terra has extensive developing country experience and is the leading developer of protocols and aggregation services for GHG emissions reductions from a full range of agricultural activities in the United States. 

This position is part of the Carbon Analytics Team and supports the GIS and remote sensing aspects of methodology development, carbon accounting (at project and program scales), development of the Terralytics monitoring system, and business development. The preferred candidate has a minimum of 5 years experience in environmental consulting or a similar field and is a self-starter with proven ability to work in a team setting while self-managing deliverables. 

Responsibilities 
 Collect, generate and manage spatial data at project, regional and global scales. 
 Conduct spatial analyses and produce maps to meet reporting requirements. 
 Execute the workflow of remote sensing analysis (data acquisition, re-projection, geometric correction, radiometric correction, classification, and map production). 
 Execute land-use change modeling and carbon accounting. 
 Visit project sites in the U.S. and developing countries for mapping and to collect ground-truthing data 
 Manage maintenance and support of IT infrastructure. 
 Contribute to creation and review of carbon feasibility studies, Project Documents and monitoring reports 
 Contribute to the development of proposals and budgets in response to grant and RFP opportunities, including background research and creation of content 

Educational and Experience Requirements 
 Minimally 5 years of professional experience in environment sector GIS and Remote Sensing 
 MSc in applied natural sciences such as forestry, ecology, natural resources, biogeochemistry with a very strong emphasis on GIS or remote sensing 
 Exceptionally computer literate and experienced in desktop and server administration 
 Proficient in a scripting language, preferably Python 
 Excellent English writing and speaking skills 
 Experience working in an international environment, specifically in developing countries 

Preferred Qualifications 
 Thorough understanding of (geo-)statistics, including kriging and variogram analysis 
 Experience in the design, development and implementation of REDD or other land-use carbon projects 
 In-depth knowledge of carbon market standards, guidelines and protocols 
 Experience with spatial web application development using MapServer, ArcGIS Flex API, Google Maps API 
 Field-level project implementation experience in a developing country 
 Professional speaking and writing skills in Spanish and/or French

 Understanding of cultural sensitivities associated with working in an international setting
