GIS Intern, Summer 2019 (Vancouver, WA)

GIS Intern; Summer 2019; Vancouver, WA;
Through this role an intern will have the ability to expand their knowledge in a wide variety of areas including (but not limited to):

• The practical uses of GIS and spatial data in a broad and multidisciplinary organization
• The role of geospatial data in the context of other business systems and processes
• Advanced GIS analytics involving Market Analysis, Natural Resource Management, Portfolio Optimization, Real
• Estate Sales, Transportation Logistics, and other business lines
• Automated reporting tools that leverage GIS data and automated processes to provide end users access to
• information (e.g. Web GIS, PowerBI)
• Effectively communicate across disciplines and skill levels
• Answer complex questions by breaking the problem down into smaller actionable components

Qualifications

• Completed at least two years of college in one of the following programs; Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Environmental Studies, Geography, GIS, City Planning, Computer Science, or Business
• Basic understanding of GIS principles and software components (ArcGIS Centric Environment)
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Ability to differentiate GIS data types and Structures (Vector and Raster)
• Ability to understand and document clear and accurate detailed requests/requirements
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability
• Basic editing capabilities (Create Feature, Merge, Split, Reshape Boundary, etc...)
• Ability to merge, move, subset, generalize, and extract existing vector data into existing or new files as necessary
• Ability to create basic maps, reports, and slides using existing data
• Background knowledge of forestry principles, market analysis, parcel data and/ or remote sensing

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic geoprocessing capabilities (Buffer, Union, Clip, etc.); Ability to leverage raster/imagery data as part of editing abilities;
  
• Practical knowledge of Access, SQL, and/or Python; knowledge of raster data manipulation is a plus
