ODF is a multi-programmed, multi-funded public agency chartered and structured to administer the forest laws and policies of the State of Oregon, within the framework of sustainable forests, for the benefit of all Oregonians.
The Information Technology Program is primarily responsible for the design, acquisition, programming, operation, training, and support of Department of Forestry computer systems. The program assists the Department's operational units in Salem, and in District and Unit offices. The program also plans for the Department-wide network, including budget guidelines, and makes policy recommendations related to computer systems and their usage.
The primary purpose of these positions are to provide Department-wide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and cartographic support. These positions work as a member of the GIS Unit and are primarily involved in GIS data design, development, display, and analysis. Duties include: creating and editing spatial data; working with the other members of the GIS Unit on data design and priority issues; spatial data development; developing program scripts to automate plotting, analysis and other functions; GIS analysis; and updating other cartographic products using GIS. These positions frequently work with other state and federal agencies, local governments, the private sector, and the public to produce GIS products, perform GIS analysis, and collect and analyze spatial data.
