The City of Salem enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) support group, part of the Information Technology Department, seeks a talented, highly motivated GIS intern to join our team. The GIS team provides skilled, professional support of the City’s GIS, mapping, and big data solutions. The GIS intern will work closely with both a mentor and with senior GIS technical staff to develop professional and technical skill sets. The GIS internship experience is hands-on and will include contributions to meaningful, real-world projects in support of City of Salem business service areas. GIS interns also support the Enterprise GIS team through a variety of tasks, including data cleanup and conversion, integration of ESRI web solutions, and design and development of GIS centric internal and external application solutions. What are the minimum qualifications? Must pass the pre-employment background check. Current standing as a graduate or undergraduate student at a college or university with major course work in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Business or closely related field, and minimum of 6 months of paid, unpaid, or volunteer experience, in the support and development of applications, GIS, computer hardware and desktop support, or analytical and problem-solving skills; or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
