The Engineering Construction Services Division within the Department of Land Use and Transportation is supported by 102 full-time staff that is responsible for road and bridge maintenance, emergency response, public right-of-way and environmental stewardship.  
 
What you will find in our Land Use and Transportation Department is something special - purposeful work done with a shared set of values that brings us together. As a Survey Technician I, you will be part of a professional team in the Development Review Section of the County Surveyor's Office. The Development review activities will include administration of the Road Naming and Addressing program, updating official records, and other duties related to public service in Washington County.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Works on a survey crew performing boundary, topographic, or construction surveying; operates survey instruments; and makes horizontal and vertical measurements using levels, electronic theodolites, distance measuring devices, data collectors, prisms, and tapes.
  • Sets and locates survey monuments; clears brush and other obstacles from survey lines; and controls traffic, when needed.
  • Sets construction stakes to indicate horizontal and vertical positions.
  • Records survey notes; makes distance and angle measurements; performs mathematical computations; and prepares field survey data for computer input.
  • Provides assistance to the public, other public agencies, and consultants; issues addresses for new construction; and assists others in researching records of surveys, county road records, vacation records, and other public records.
  • Maintains public records of subdivisions, condominium and partition plats, surveys, vacations of public right-of-way, and county roads.
  • Operates microfilm reader/printer, copy equipment, copy machines, personal computer, and other equipment; and makes copies of prints for the public and others.
  • Performs basic drafting of maps, plats, and surveys; and updates official records, as required.
  • Posts information on public records, as required by law, under the direction of the County Surveyor.
  • Operates hand and power tools; excavates soil, pavement, and concrete; and moves equipment over rough terrain. 



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESEducation and Experience:
  • Associate's Degree in surveying, mathematics, geographic information systems, engineering, or related field; OR
  • One (1) year of responsible experience in one or more of the following: survey, road construction, road construction inspection, property records management, geographic information systems, and drafting; AND
  • One (1) year of other work experience in an office or field setting.
