Find a map that details places that are important or special to you, or use them for wallpaper or art projects. No matter how you use your map, you can't beat the prices that we offer. Job Conditions Both positions will work in the field approximately 60% of the time, and in the office 40% of the time. The fieldwork includes working in and around such locations as urban areas, farms, and working forests; streams and ponds; properties with dense, thorny vegetation; steep slopes, and other hazardous terrain, and applying herbicides. Herbicide application will include training and supervision by staff who will be working alongside the intern. Occasional interactions with farm animals and pets may occur while in the field. Physical exertion is required, such as walking and carrying equipment and tools weighing up to 17 pounds. The office and outreach work includes working at a desk, using a computer, and working or standing at a table. Travel in a District vehicle is required to field sites, workshops, meetings and training sessions. Although not required, applicants who hold a valid driver's license may be asked to drive a District or personal vehicle. Compensation Base pay is $16.50 per hour. Positions are at-will and non-exempt. The District will pay for any required training and licenses. Use of a personal vehicle or a personal phone is not required or expected, but if such use occurs, certain expenses are eligible for reimbursement. Open Position: GIS Specialist As a member of the Friends of the Verde River Habitat Restoration team, the GIS Specialist will support our habitat restoration program, including building and maintaining databases, analyzing data, and developing mapping applications and tools. Reporting directly to the Habitat Restoration Manager, the GIS Specialist must demonstrate a clear understanding of Geographic Information Systems and associated software to produce, display, and analyze geospatial data. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and creative thinker who is comfortable learning and applying evolving GIS technology to projects related to natural resource management. Job Overview The GIS Specialist provides GIS support to the Habitat Restoration Program specifically and the organization as a whole to ensure that we meet goals and deliver projects on time. Duties include: acting as a technical lead within the Habitat Restoration team; providing GIS and data collection solutions, managing data, producing maps, and providing technical GIS support. The GIS Specialist manages mobile data applications for collecting ecological data remotely in the field; manages and formats data for reporting, sharing, and analysis; produces maps and other cartographic products as needed; and provides support for GIS software and hardware. Duties and responsibilities include: Data: Design, maintain, and manage geodatabases to ensure data quality and ease of data collection. Perform data QA/QC. Format and merge datasets to meet differing data requirements. Package, document, and distribute GIS data to partner agencies. Perform statistical summaries or spatial analyses as needed. ArcGIS Online: Use ArcGIS Online to manage web apps and field-collected data, serve data into Web Applications, Web Maps, and Operations Dashboards. Design, Edit, and/or Develop mobile data collection applications using the ESRI Software suite (Collector for ArcGIS, Survey 123). Mapping: Create maps and cartographic products in both ArcGIS desktop (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro) and ArcGIS Online for viewing and exporting data. Develop and maintain interactive web maps, tools, & Story Maps. Create maps for field use, reports, presentations, grant applications, and storytelling via the web. Support: Provide field crew training in data collection methods. Maintain records and document methodology. Provide support for remote data collection using mobile devices and Collector for ArcGIS. Maintain desktop GIS software licenses, install and provide support for GIS software and apps. Work with staff to determine and meet their GIS needs for data collection, reporting, sharing, and presentation. National Park Service Great Lakes Network Summer 2020 GIS Technician Position Location: Technician will be stationed at the Great Lakes Network office in Ashland, WI Duration: Approximately late May through late August 2020. Exact starting and ending dates are negotiable. Pay: Pay rate is $10.10/hour. Housing: Housing is not provided. Applicant will need to secure housing within commuting distance of office (Ashland). Short term housing may be available through the local college (Northland College). Hours: 30-40 hours per week Description and Duties: Selected applicant will be employed by Northland College but will be working at the National Park Service’s Great Lakes Inventory & Monitoring Network office in support of a maritime vegetation monitoring project. The technician will be assisting in the long-term land cover change program. The job will entail validating thousands of disturbance polygons generated by an automated process (LandTrendr) using the Landsat satellite archive (1984-Present). The validation process will be performed in the office using ArcMap and Google Earth. We use multiple information sources to help inform our validation interpretation. Sources of information include high-resolution airphotos, Landsat spectral information, and tasseled cap transformed Landsat images. The geographic areas being validated will include Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and adjacent lands in and around Ashland, WI. Other tasks during the summer will include data management tasks such as quality assurance/quality checking and data entry. Metro is seeking a Wildlife Monitoring Program Intern to help administer a volunteer-mediated wildlife monitoring program focused on pond-breeding amphibians. The data collected from this program helps Metro track key wildlife populations and evaluate the effectiveness of restoration at specific Metro natural areas.
Interns will receive training related to monitoring techniques and data systems. They will obtain experience in field survey, scientific data collection and management, and citizen science volunteer coordination. Metro science staff support students seeking independent study credit through their academic institutions.
